About
Hello.
I’m Alan from California, USA, and I’m a hobby/gigging pianist, who’s taught myself to play the piano, after some years of playing the electronic organ. I learn all my songs by hearing and writing my own alphabetical notes - that is, I neither read conventional music sheet nor am studied in music theory.
I finger the piano any way I like - Whatever works, whichever way‘s comfortable, whatever key I feel….it doesn’t matter! . That’s my playing approach. What matters it how it all sounds when put together.
Now, would you like someone like that to teach you how to play the piano…?? Maybe?… Defintely not!!?
Well, if maybe, then I think you would at least want to check me out, especially if you are one of the many budding enthusiasts out there who have found difficulty or simply lost patience with learning to play the piano by the conventional way with music notes.
I feel that I have a special knowledge that may help entice you back to the keyboard, with an alternative method of learning how to play the piano. Even if you can’t follow my hearing methods, I’m sure you’ll at least learn a thing or two.
With all of this in mind, I’ve set up PianoPod as an evolving medium to try to impart my knowledge, mainly through the use of blogs and videos. It may at times be challenging for me to try to explain aural techniques clearly enough for you to understand; but do let me know if you don’t, and I’ll try to do it better.
Have a listen to samples of my playing , and decide for yourself if my standard of playing is worth your time exploring my methods.
Happy hearing and learning!
